Confederate Veterans Buried in Kansas
|
After the War of Northern Aggression, a large number of the men who fought and their families left their beloved homeland and migrated elsewhere, for many varied reasons. Though Kansas was sparsely populated, we are finding quite a number of Confederates here. We have found quite a diversity of veterans to date. Though most have been enlisted privates, we know of a Lieutenant Colonel who was an active participant of Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg (Lt Col Abel S. Cloud, Barber County)...a Confederate sailor who came to land-locked Kansas with little money to become one of the wealthier residents of Wichita at the time of his passing (S.C. Summers of Sedgwick County), a man who would become known as a Western Legend, and be the subject of several books (Isom Prentice Olive of Ford County), and many others
As finding more burials, as well as additions to this website, is an ongoing venture, any input or knowledge of a Confederate buried in Kansas would be greatly appreciated, If you spot any errors or have questions, please let me know as well, as I want to keep this as accurate as possible. Email is at the bottom of this page.
Note: Due to copyright laws, obits prior to 1923 are public domain and can be included in their entirety on the website - post 1923 obits will be shown abstracted and only pertinent data posted unless I have written permission from the newspaper to post their obits. Thank you! |
